5/13/2010 8:55:30 PM - Jets' coach Rex Ryan has begun a friendly competition with nose tackle Kris Jenkins and right tackle Damien Woody to see who can lose the most weight by July 30, two days before players report to the team's training camp in Cortland, N.Y.

Ryan told the team's website, newyorkjets.com, "I just think it's going to be a fun thing. It's just a thing where I said, 'Let's take a look at some guys who need to shed a couple of pounds ... Damien and Kris.' And I'm going to do the same thing. I've already lost 37, 38 pounds (following a recent lap-band surgical procedure), but that's not included in this. That's the issue I'm dealing with right now."

Woody told the team's website that it's a "great idea" by Ryan, adding, "I'm not out of shape. (more...)

Even during this offseason when the New York Jets nose tackle ballooned to 390 pounds, 30 more than his listed playing weight. 5/13/2010 2:13:00 PM - Kris Jenkins is doing well in his knee rehab, but Jets trainer John "Unchained" Mellody is holding him back from on-the-field work until his highly-publicized weight loss goal is met. Jenkins is looking to lose between 30-45 pounds, and once he completes that mission, Mellody will allow him to do football drills. (more...)
